Steven Eskay is a distinguished educational professional and Principal residing in Silver Spring, Maryland. With over a decade of experience in education, he is committed to implementing progressive educational reforms. Currently, Steven serves as the Principal of DC Public Schools, where he champions representation, inclusion, and accessibility for all his students, drawing inspiration from civil rights leaders.

Steven’s academic journey laid a strong foundation for his career. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from The College of William and Mary. His pursuit of knowledge didn’t stop there; he went on to obtain a Juris Doctorate in Law from UDC’s David A. Clarke School of Law. Recognizing the importance of specialized education, he furthered his studies with a Master’s in Education from American University, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

Steven’s professional journey began in 2011 as an Educational Consultant and Advocate. For eight years, he provided educational testing, consultation, and advocacy services for students aged 5–12. This role was concurrent with his position as a part-time teacher at the Model Learning Center (MCPS), which started in 2009, where he taught English, history, and NSL government. His dedication to special education led him to become a Part-Time Co-Teacher and eventually a Special Education Teacher. From 2013 to 2019, he made significant strides, notably improving the Math PARCC scores for students with IEPs from zero to forty percent.

In 2019, Steven transitioned to DC Public Schools as the Manager of Specialized Instruction. He focused on enhancing schoolwide practices through data-driven and research-based small-group instruction. His effectiveness in this role paved the way for his appointment as Assistant Principal. During his tenure, he developed and implemented a Whole-Child Multi-Tiered System of Support alongside initiatives like the Summer Academy, After School Acceleration Academy, and Saturday Arts Academy.

As the current Principal of DC Public Schools, Steven oversees an elementary school’s instructional and operational priorities with over four hundred students and sixty staff members. Under his leadership, the school achieved an unprecedented reading proficiency rate of 87%. Steven also founded the “Innovation Lab,” a district model for STEM education and enrichment, which contributed to a significant increase in school enrollment to a five-year high.

Steven has a deep appreciation for art and soccer outside of his professional achievements. He values these activities for their ability to foster creativity, community, and collaboration. He believes that encouraging students to engage in such pursuits helps develop well-rounded, knowledgeable individuals capable of meaningful self-expression and citizenship.

Steven Eskay’s career is marked by a relentless pursuit of educational excellence and a commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment for all students. His innovative approach and dedication to progressive reforms continue to inspire and positively impact the DC educational landscape.
